After reading Paul Jacobs post about super serving clients I responded with this follow up. Sales is a tough job when your confidence or ratings are low. Going after local direct business is challenging but it can also be THE most rewarding aspect of all radio stations sales, regardless of what market you are in. Disruptions may be part of the norm going forward (sadly) but the “we try harder” part should never go away.

Great post Paul, thanks for sharing. When I was at a newly launched station in a competitive market in Toronto in the 90’s we had “we try harder” than the market leaders in our thinking. Then I got to a market leader and still maintained that “we try harder” attitude/approach to clients that was ingrained in my sales MO. Today I am at yet another start up and guess what I help our team achieve…  “we try harder” to get clients big or small the success that comes from using the medium fully and asking “what else” Not sure who coined the phrase but a great one to live by… “if we don’t take care of our customers, someone else will”
